Proof. Protection.
Peace of Mind.
Creating art is challenging enough; protecting it shouldn’t be. We built teia.cafe to ensure artists can secure their legacy and defend their work without legal hurdles or prohibitive costs.

The problem
Your work is copied faster than you can prove it’s yours.
Artists
See their work copyminted, reposted without credit and fed to AI models, with no quick way to prove it came first or to find where it went.
Collectors
Buy works that turn out to be copies, with no easy way to check who made the original or what the license allows.
The industry
NFT markets are plagued by fraud: 38% of NFT trades are wash trades¹, and one scanner flagged 245,000+ copymints in under a year². Across the web, an estimated 85% of shared images are used without a license³. A US registration costs $45–65 and takes months⁴.
The core issue: proof is slow and costly, and finding copies is left to the artist. The blockchain fixes the first; watermarking and AI fix the second.

The solution
Proof. Protection. Peace of Mind.
Proof: Register
Any work – image, video, audio, 3D or text – is tokenized with its license terms on TEIA’s registry: a public, timestamped record.
Protection: Watermark
An invisible mark with the registration and a do-not-train notice, built to survive resizing, compression, noise and other common edits.
Peace of Mind: Enforce
AI and traditional media-matching methods trace and track content, providing citable evidence; we are planning coverage of audio, video and the wider web.
The combination of blockchain records (definitive proof of authorship), watermarking (a trail that survives transformations and bypass attempts), and AI attribution systems gives artists protection with far greater precision and accuracy than ever before.
TEIA’s non-profit, open-source framework also ensures these records remain available even if companies or organizations shut down or are acquired – a long-standing problem in the space, finally being addressed.

How it works
Proof. Protection. Peace of Mind.
1 · Proof
Register
Tokenize the work and record its license on TEIA’s copyright registry: who made it, when, and on what terms.
→
2 · Protection
Watermark
An invisible mark that survives resizing, re-compression, noise and other common edits.
→
3 · Peace of Mind
Enforce
AI attribution systems ensure that copyright and royalties rules are being properly enforced, at scale.
Blockchain: proof
A public, permanent record of author, date and license that anyone can check.
Watermark: identity
The file itself carries its registration, even after it leaves your hands.
AI detection & attribution: reach
With two layers of verification, copyright protections become much easier to enforce – both through traditional channels and AI tools.

Planned: matching for audio and video, and scans across the wider web.

Is this realistic?
Doubt 1
“It can be bypassed.”
Bypassing it doesn’t erase the source. Every registration is tied to a public blockchain record: one definitive source of who registered the work, and when. A copy has to beat every layer, and matching can still spot it.
Doubt 2
“It isn’t legally recognized.”
It doesn’t have to be. We give artists evidence, not a lawsuit: a dated record and a short list of likely copies to attach to a takedown request or show a moderator. Court cases stay with the US Copyright Office.
Doubt 3
“Berne says registration can’t be required.”
Ours isn’t mandatory. Under the Berne Convention, copyright exists from the moment a work is made, with no formalities¹. Registering with us is optional proof on top, and matching covers unregistered works too.
Doubt 4
“Anyone set on copying will find a way.”
We make the honest path easy. Most people want to credit creators, but today’s systems make it tedious. We make it quick for good actors (find the artist, check the terms, license) and hard for bad actors to run rampant.
Our goal isn’t perfection – it’s to shift the balance of power from bad actors to good ones. With our framework, this is entirely possible.

Why now
The law now asks AI to give credit.
Aug 2025
EU AI Act¹
AI models must show what they learned from
Providers must honour copyright opt-outs and publish a summary of their training data; fines up to 3% of turnover.
Jan 2026
California AB 2013²
Training data, out in the open
Developers must disclose where their training data came from, and whether it includes copyrighted work.
Jul 2026
Bartz v. Anthropic³
$1.5B for unlicensed training
The largest copyright settlement on record: about $3,000 a work for books from pirate libraries.
Aug 2026
EU AI Act⁴, SB 942⁵
AI output must be marked – and already is
EU and Californian law require machine-readable marks; Google’s SynthID alone has marked over 10 billion pieces⁶.
What this means for artists: AI companies will now have to know whose work they use. A public, timestamped registration – including its license terms and AI-training permissions – is the record they will need to check. Tying those watermarks to blockchain records ensures that claims are valid and accurate.

Copyright Now vs the Future
Faster, cheaper, better.
| US Copyright Office | teia.cafe + TEIA registry | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | $45–65 a work, rising to $55–85 from Nov 2026¹ | ~$0.50: 1 credit plus fees |
| Time | 1–3.5 months on average² | Seconds; final in 12 s |
| Reach | A US government record | A public, global record anyone can verify |
| License terms | Not included | Built in, with templates; tokenized and sold with editions |
| Finding copies | None: that is on you | Scans the web and the chain, with evidence |
| Takedowns and disputes | Needed to sue in a US court | Credible takedowns and faster disputes, without litigation |
Use both for high-value works: the federal record for court; ours for everyday proof, credible takedowns and licensing.

Detection Methods Now vs the Future
Combining these technologies solves the puzzle.
| Image search (Google Lens, TinEye) | Monitoring (Pixsy, Copytrack) | Watermarks (C2PA, hidden marks) | AI detectors (Hive, Illuminarty) | teia.cafe | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| How it works | Finds the same image online | Watches the web, files claims | A label hidden in the file | Guesses if an image is AI-made | All, tied to an on-chain record |
| Weak spot | Misses crops and edits | Takes ~50% of what it recovers¹ | Stripped by 8 of 8 platforms²; removable³ | Easily fooled⁴; can’t say who made it | No single point of failure |
| Proof of authorship | None | A private registry | Only while the mark survives | None | A public, timestamped registry |
| Trust and transparency | Google’s index | The company staying in business | Every platform to keep the mark | A black-box score | On-chain and open-source |
| Cost | Free, but manual | $19–25+ a month, plus commission¹ | Free to add, easy to lose | Paid per-image APIs | Less than $1 a scan, ~$0.50 to register |
Past products solved some issues for some users – but at a high cost, and never at scale. The immutability of blockchain systems, combined with newer technologies, is the missing piece that completes the picture.

Our community
TEIA uses the blockchain as it was intended.
TEIA is a non-profit, community-owned DAO and a direct continuation of Hic et Nunc, operating on the original contracts. It represents the purest use of blockchain as it was intended: nearly every feature runs on-chain, not just minting and sales. This includes direct messages and public channels, token-gated comments, polls and DAO votes, the events calendar, the wiki and text posts, copyright registrations, curation, fees, and admin/moderation decided by the core-team multisig.
Ryan and Joe are founders and core members who helped build the community from the ground up. In 2026, they helped raise $30K on TEIA’s behalf from the Tezos Foundation.
